Women working with India

In spite of its enormous economic progress India remains a traditional society in which men and women face different expectations. Every professional woman in the Western world encounters challenges that are quite distinct from those faced by her male colleagues. In India this situation is magnified, but not always in predictable ways. Women require a different skillset to successfully negotiate business in India.

Next available course date: Monday 24th November, 10.00-17.00.

The basic format is the same as the general Indialink one-day course:

  • Tackling cultural associations; the concept of intercultural training
  • Introduction to the history, geography, politics and religions of India
  • Overview of the complex language situation in India, including an introduction to Indian usage of English and survival Hindi
  • Cultural do-s and don’t-s to avoid potentially embarrassing situations
  • Organising yourself and others - how to negotiate the practical side of India

However, in a Women Working with India course we approach these general topics from a female perspective. We also look at positive role models that exist for women in India, and how, for example, the mythology of the Goddess affects the way women are perceived. We thus gain a deeper understanding of the status of women in Indian society, and learn how best to navigate our way round the particular issues women have to negotiate.

Our leading consultant speaks of her own experiences as a foreign woman in India with great passion, insight and humour. To learn about Indian culture from a female perspective, join us for this innovative one-day training course.
